यू.पी.एस.

UPSC PATTERN SYLLABUS

7502   05-Jan-2018, Fri

पूर्वपरीक्षा पेपर - I - GS -

(Comprehenston)

३) Logical Reasoning

Important Point about UPSC

4862   05-Jan-2018, Fri

Information About UPSC Exam

The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the All India administrative civil service. IAS officers hold key and strategic positions in the Union Government, States governments, and public-sector undertakings. Like in various countries (for example the UK) following a Parliamentary system, IAS as the permanent bureaucracy in India forms an inseparable part of the executive branch of the Government of India, thus providing continuity and neutrality to the administration.

Along with the Indian Police Service and Indian Forest Service, the IAS is one of the three All India Services — its cadre can be employed by both the Union Government and the individual States.

Upon confirming to service after probation as Sub-Divisional Magistrate, an IAS officer is given administrative command of entire district administration in the district as District collector after four years of service. On attaining the upper levels of Super Time Scale to Apex Scale, they can go on to head whole departments and subsequently entire Ministries of Governments of India and its states. IAS officers represent Government of India at the international level in bilateral and multilateral negotiations. On deputations, they work at Intergovernmental organizations like World Bank and United Nations or its Agencies. IAS officers at various levels of administration play vital roles in conducting free, fair and smooth elections in India under the direction of Election Commission of India and states.

HOW TO SELECTED IN IAS
Every year Union Public Service Commission conducts Civil Services Exams across India. There are around 10 lakhs forms received by UPSC from aspirants of IAS Exam. Out of which on an average 60% appears in PT.

There are three stages of selection process –

Preliminary Test
Mains Written Exam
Interview

A number of vacancies are notified by UPSC which remains around 700-1000 for civil services. But only top 70-100 candidates are allotted Indian Administrative Service. Indian Police Service is the second most opted choice among services, third is Indian Foreign Service, Fourth is Indian Revenue Services and then other civil services follows.

Preliminary Test
PT is conducted in the month of August for which form and notification released by the Union Public Service Commission, New Delhi in the month of February.

PT exam has Two papers of 100 questions and 80 questions to be finished in two hours each.

These papers are named as

General Studies Paper I
General Studies Paper II

General Studies Paper II is a qualifying paper only with the cutoff score of 33%, the merit list is created solely based on the score of GS Paper I.

UPSC Civil Services Mains Exam
After qualifying the Preliminary Examination candidates are allowed to go for mains exam which consists of two parts –

Written exam of nine papers
Personality test (also known as interview)
Interview/Personality Test – 275 marks
Candidate can give preference of the language in which they may like to be interviewed. UPSC will make arrangement for the translators.

Grand Total 2025 Marks

Eligibility Criteria to apply the Civil service Exam:
To apply for this examination, you should must eligible in certain criteria, as we know that eligibility is an entry point in any examination.

The candidate must be a citizen of India.
The candidate should have a degree from Central, State or Deemed University. Degree from Correspondence Education or distance education, the open university is also accepted.
The candidate age must be
21 years old and not must be greater than 32 years old. For Open category is restrict to 32 years, for OBC category is restrict to 35 years and for SC/ST it is restricted to 37 years old.
Number of attempts is limited, for Open category it  is limited to 6 attempts, for OBC category it is limited to 9 attempts and for SC/ST candidate there is no limitation (Any number of attempts)
LIFE AFTER CLEAR EXAM-
The results for the UPSC Civil Service Examination are generally declared within a week after the completion of the interviews – this has been the trend in the last two years. Once the results are declared, the following things happen –

UPSC declares the cutoff marks for Prelims and Mains examinations, along with the overall cut off. This is followed by the detailed mark sheet (Prelims + Mains + Interview) for those who appeared for Mains Examination and passed in the Qualifying papers (Regional language and English).
The answer keys for Prelims exam is then declared.
Now the fate of those in the UPSC merit list shifts to the
Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) which, I have felt, is not as efficient as UPSC. Service allocation, which is done by DoPT based on rank and category of the candidates.
Service allocation by DoPT comes with its own set of problems. Not all the candidates whose names figure in the UPSC Merit List are allocated services straight away. Instead, the allocation is done in rounds. Those who do not get an allocation in the 1st round would have a star (*) next to their name in the DoPT website. This * may be because of various reasons such as temporarily unfit status from medical check up, problems with documents submitted, reserved category issues, etc. The number of starred candidates comes down after every round of allocation, as the issues concerning them are resolved.
Once the allocation is made, you have to wait for the official service allocation letter from DoPT via post and email.
Hereon,
Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration(LBSNAA) comes into the picture. LBSNAA begins the registration process for Foundation Course (FC) of all the selected candidates. In the registration form you have to either join the FC or seek exemption citing valid reasons – medical issues / already completed FC previously / taking CSE again.
For those who opt to join the FC, you shall receive your joining formalities and appointment letter within a few days. For those who have opted out, they shall receive their appointment letters directly from their
Cadre Controlling Authorities (CCA), like CBEC for IRS (C&CE), before their service specific training starts in December.
Selected candidates either join FC directly or take exemption and head straight to their respective training academies (NADT, NACEN, SVPNPA, etc) in December and join their batchmates who attended FC.

CONCLUSION-
Always remain focused on your main goal, do not divert yourself. Always keep reminding yourself that you have to clear your exam in the first attempt. Most of the Candidates have the habit of preparing for different competitive exams simultaneously to play safe. In such case, your minds get diverted.

You must realize that properly preparing for the civil services exam is not a part-time job. It is a fact that if you are fully devoted to preparing for the civil services exam without pursuing any other studies, competitive exams or job.

Your concentration level will be at its peak, and this would give you the best results. The desire to grab one job or the other and playing it safe leads to failure on all fronts. As the famous saying goes, ‘ a man sailing on two different boats at the same
